A keel laying ceremony for Jan De Nul Group’s 18,000m³ trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) has taken place at the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry shipyard in Dalian, China.

The new vessel was named Galileo Galilei, after the famous Italian astronomer, physicist and engineer.

The TSHD will be equipped with a two stage highly efficient exhaust gas filter system, resulting in emissions complying with the European Stage V regulations for inland waterway vessels.

According to Jan De Nul, it is expected that the delivery will take place in 2020.

In accordance with Jan De Nul’s fleet modernization plans, the Keppel Offshore & Marine shipyard in Singapore also achieved a considerable progress with the construction of two 6.000m³ trailing suction hopper dredgers, to be named Sanderus and Ortelius.

These vessels will be delivered at the end of 2019.
